Family:  Sparidae (Porgies)
Max. size:  36 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range - 120 m
Distribution:  Western Indian Ocean: known only in southern Africa, mainly between Durban and Beira. Strays reach Algoa Bay and small juveniles are found offshore along the Cape south coast to near Knysna.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 13-13; Dorsal soft rays (total): 10-11; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 8-9. 5 cm specimens yellow, with 2 black blotches on body below dorsal fin.
Biology:  Occurs in middle waters near reefs (Ref. 3507). Carnivorous. Sold fresh.
