Family:  Priacanthidae (Bigeyes or catalufas)
Max. size:  25 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; marine; depth range 30 - 320 m
Distribution:  Western Pacific: southern Japan, the Ryukyu Islands, and the Philippines.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 10-10; Dorsal soft rays (total): 13-13; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 13-14. Description: Characterized by the following: red to silvery color; pectoral fins bright yellow; black spot at base of pelvic fins; soft portion of dorsal fin slightly taller than spinous portion, rounded posteriorly; truncate to very slightly emarginate caudal fin; poorly developed preopercular spine, inconspicuous in adult (Ref. 90102).
Biology:  In rocky bottom areas.
