Family:  Myctophidae (Lanternfishes), subfamily: Myctophinae
Max. size:  5.4 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  pelagic-oceanic; marine; depth range - 96 m, oceanodromous
Distribution:  Circumglobal between the Subtropical Convergence and the Antarctic Polar Front, with northern boundary correlated with the 5°C isotherm at 200 m. Southern Ocean: all three ocean sectors.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 11-13; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 22-25
Biology:  High-oceanic and mesopelagic; found in the upper 100 m at night (Ref. 4066). Possibly fed on by Champsocephalus gunnari. Matures at about 4.5 cm SL.
