Family:  Pinguipedidae (Sandperches)
Max. size:  120 cm TL (male/unsexed); max.weight: 20 kg
Environment:  demersal; marine; depth range 15 - 300 m
Distribution:  Southwest Atlantic: Rio de Janeiro to the coast of Santa Catarina, Brazil (Ref. 27569); range extended to Argentina. Citations off Uruguay are probably misidentifications of Pseudopercis semifasciata (Ref. 57919).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 7-7; Dorsal soft rays (total): 26-28; Anal spines: 1-2; Anal soft rays: 24-27
Biology:  Inhabits deeper waters of the continental shelf (Ref. 27569). Also sandy, rubble and rocky bottoms and shallow rocky reef (Ref. 57919).
