Family:  Leuciscidae (Minnows), subfamily: Leuciscinae
Max. size:  10 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  Eurasia: endemic to the northern part of the Jordan River basin where it occurs in the Golan Heights and Jabal Duruz (Jebel Druse).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 2-3; Dorsal soft rays (total): 7-7; Anal spines: 2-3; Anal soft rays: 6-6. Usually silvery grey with a dark band running along the middle of the trunk.
Biology:  Occurs in large dense populations, among stones and vegetation, in small ponds and streams. Feeds on plants and small animals. Spawns between April and June.
