Max. size:  8.2 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater; pH range: 6.5 - 7.5; dH range: 2 - 12
Distribution:  Africa: Congo River basin except in the Shaba (Katanga) region and the Kasai (Ref. 43352), in Central African Republic, Republic of Congo and Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Diagnosis:  Description: snout pointed; head profile steep to slightly concave; adult males often develop a small nuchal hump; caudal fin rounded (Ref. 52307). Coloration: body rosy to red with a brownish underlayer, dominant individuals bright red; caudal spot always visible in juveniles, but tends to disappear in adults; centrally located lateral spot well-developed, rounded and often surrounded by a thin, lightly colored zone; rarely some dark vertical bars appear, reaching from dorsum to near mid-body (Ref. 52307).
Biology:  Absent from rapids and swampy habitats (Ref. 5644). Primarily found in forested habitats, but also in more savannah-like areas with gallery forests; open substratum spawner with well-defined pair-bonding (Ref. 52307).
