Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  South America: Amazon River channels in Brazil and Peru.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Discharge of its electric organ is unknown. Collected from flooded beaches and deep river channels using seines and trawl nets in the Amazon River, and the mouths of some of its whitewater tributaries(Ref. 57730).
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 21 July 2020 Ref. (130435)

Country info:  Type locality, Municipality of Alvarães, Mamirauá Lake System, Paraná Maiana, Amazonas, MCP 34916 (holotype of Pariosternarchus amazonensis, 12.1 cm SL). Also collected along the Rio Solimões frm near the confluence of the Rio Japurá to near the confluence of the Rio Madeira (Ref. 57730).
