Family:  Cyprinidae (Minnows or carps), subfamily: Cyprininae
Max. size:  56 cm SL (male/unsexed); max.weight: 2,550.0 g
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  Asia: middle and upper reaches of Yangtze River, China.
Diagnosis:  Body black on back and sides, tiny black stripes along sides of body. Barbels 2 pairs; outer edge of dorsal fin truncated; pectoral fin long and its tip reaching origin of pelvic fin.
Biology:  Lives in slow flowing deep water in rocky substratum. Carnivore, feeds mainly on zoobenthos (Ref. 45563).

Threat to humans:  harmless
Country info:  Known from the middle and upper reaches of the Yangtze River (=Changjiang River). Status of threat: Vulnerable (Ref. 45563). Known from Huibei Province: (Zhicheng, Yichang); Sichuan Province: (Nanxi, Yibin, Leshan, Mudong, Wanxian, Tuojiang); Guizhou Province: (Yanhe, Wuchuan, Wujiangdu)(Ref.45623).
