Family:  Ostraciidae (Boxfishes)
Max. size:  25 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; marine
Distribution:  Northwest Pacific: Japan.
Closely related to Ostracion cubicum from Indo-Pacific.
Diagnosis:  Juveniles are bright yellow, with small black dots and pale blue dots. The black dots disappear as the fish grows, the pale blue dots enlarge. Adults are yellow and blue, having pale blue spots on each plate.
Biology:  Occurs near shore (incl. semi-enclosed sea areas) on rock bottoms (Ref. 11230).

Threat to humans:  harmless
Country info:  Known from northern (occasionally found in Yehliu) and southern (occasionally found in Nanwan) Taiwan (Ref. 43538). Also Ref. 128523.
