Family:  Characidae (Characins; tetras), subfamily: Stethaprioninae
Max. size:  5 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  South America: Upper Solimões, Mana and Approuague River basins.
Diagnosis:  Lateral line incomplete.
Biology:  Frequently found in waters with slow current or the counter current zones of small creeks with clear water and sandy bottom. It occupies the upstream portion of rivers before a waterfall. Its capture in great numbers suggest a gregarious behavior (Ref. 12225). Its reproduction in captivity has not been reported (Ref. 27188). Maximum length 5.0 SL (Ref. 12225).

Country info:  Reported from two rivers, the Approuague and the Mana, which are distantly situated from each other (Ref. 12225). also present at Kaw (Ref. 35237).
