Family:  Cyprinidae (Minnows or carps), subfamily: Torinae
Max. size:  39 cm TL (male/unsexed); max.weight: 3,200.0 g
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  Africa: Okavango and upper Zambezi systems (Ref. 7248). Also reported from the southern Congo River basin in Angola (Ref. 120641) but without further details. Very similar to the largescale yellowfish and may represent the same species (Ref. 7248).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 4-4; Dorsal soft rays (total): 9-10. Description: no ossified last simple dorsal fin ray; dorsal fin very tall (Ref. 74045).
Biology:  Prefers fast water with rocky bottom and seldom occurs over sand or in aquatic vegetation (Ref. 13337). Feeds on aquatic insect larvae, crustaceans, mollusks and small fish (Ref. 13337).

Country info:  Known from Okavango and Upper Zambezi. Also in Caprivi, South West Africa/Namibia (Ref. 37065).
