Family:  Aphaniidae (Oriental killifishes)
Max. size:  7.04 cm TL (male/unsexed); max.weight: 6.4 g
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  Asia: Sakarya River basin in Turkey.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal soft rays (total): 9-12; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 10-12. Presence of a small dark ocellus at the rear part of the dorsal fin, even visible in subadults; dark cross bars 13-19; absence of cross bars on caudal fin; a narrow black margin on the dorsal fin; females almost without spots on the sides; 75 diagnostic molecular synapomorphic characters in the mitochondrial gene regions investigated (Ref. 52509). Remarks: Scales on mid-longitudinal series 25-28 + 2-3 on caudal fin base (Ref. 52509).

Country info:  Known only from basin of the upper Sakarya Nehri River, including Lake Cavuscu. Also Ref. 106151. Type locality, Pinarbasi, approximately 10.5 km east of Emirdag, drainage canal of small spring pond, 39°02'53"N, 31°19'38"E (Ref. 52509). Status of threat: Critically Endangered (Ref. 58342). nEurTurk.
