Distribution:  Africa: eastern Lake Victoria, Tanzania.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 15-17; Dorsal soft rays (total): 9-10; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 9-10; Vertebrae: 29-31
Biology:  Restricted to rocky substrates. Microhabitats of this species range from very gentle to moderately steep slopes. Feeds on chironomid larvae, filamentous Chlorophyta, diatoms and macrophytes.

Threat to humans:  harmless
Country info:  Widespread in clear water areas of south eastern Lake Victoria. At most places this is rarely seen but at the geographically isolated island complexes Mabibi Island and Vesi Archipelago, it is abundant or even one of the numerically dominant species in appropriate habitats.
