Environment:  demersal; brackish; marine; depth range - 40 m
Distribution:  Western Atlantic: Lesser Antilles, Colombia to Brazil.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 13-13; Dorsal soft rays (total): 12-12; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 11-11
Biology:  Mainly found in brackish estuaries and adjacent areas, over sandy or muddy bottoms. Sometimes caught in marine waters. Feeds on crustaceans (Ref. 3798). Marketed fresh (Ref. 3798).

Country info:  Common in the Gulf of Paria, brackishwaters of the Maracaibo system, Orinoco delta and its adjacent areas up to depths of 30 m (Ref. 9626). Found in mouth of Pedernales channel - Cotorra Island, Guanipa river - Venado channel, Manamito channel and mouth of Bagre (Ref. 51849).
