Max. size:  18 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater; pH range: 7.5 - 8.5; dH range: 10
Distribution:  Africa: endemic to Lake Tanganyika, restricted to the southwestern part of the lake (Ref. 46829, 52921).
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Lives in the shallow, rocky habitat; extremely shy; usually found in groups; feeds on algae and has long digestive tract (Ref. 46829). Feeds by scraping rock biocover (Ref. 6770, 46829). Females brood their young in the mouth (Ref. 46829, 86760).

Threat to humans:  harmless
Territory info:  Found around Cape Chipimbi (Ref. 6770) and near the border with the Democratic Republic of the Congo (Ref. 46829, 53528, 55078). Also Ref. 40115.
