Leptocephalus stage: larvae are elongated, ribbon-shaped and transparent. Presence of 20 teeth in the upper jaw and 17 in the lower jaw. Predorsal and preanal distances are relatively shorter than M. cinereus. Pigmentation: Presence of a few chromatophores on the tip of the lower jaw. Presence of mid-lateral line chromatophores beginning from the 23rd myomere. Some pigmented cells at the base of the anal fin. |
