পৃষ্ঠীয় নরম পাখনা দন্ড (মোট ): 6-7; পায়ূর নরম পাখনা্তুন্ড: 20 - 25; কশেরুকা : 28 - 29. Principal caudal fin rays 5/6.

Found in ditches, canals, ponds. Occurs at the surface in habitats with dense growth of aquatic plants. Feeds on small crustaceans, insects and protozoans (Ref. 12693). Non-annual breeder. Is very difficult to maintain in aquarium (Ref. 27139). Not seen in markets (Ref. 12693).

Female carries her eggs outside her body in a cluster, attached to the genital pore by filaments.
