Dorsal spines (total): 7; Dorsal soft rays (total): 113; Anal spines: 1; Anal soft rays: 14. This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following characters: terminal mouth is oblique; distinct pigmentation of 5 large blotches on sides of trunk, last four of which are vertically elongate, dark blotch on upper half of pectoral-fin base, and broad suborbital patch crossing cheek from eye to middle of upper jaw; D2 13; A 14; dorsal fins not broadly connected; body with small cycloid scales; lateral series 54-66; nape with scales along naked midline; in males, maxilla extending beyond posterior margin of orbit, in females to posterior margin; first gill arch with seven thin rakers on ceratobranchial, one at angle, and six on epibranchial; horizontal midcheek row ‘b’ not extending forward beyond 3rd or 4th transverse suborbital row (Ref. 55435).

Biology     Glossary (e.g. epibenthic)

Estimates based on models

Phylogenetic diversity index (Ref. 82804):  PD50 = 0.5078   [Uniqueness, from 0.5 = low to 2.0 = high].
Bayesian length-weight: a=0.00631 (0.00329 - 0.01208), b=3.02 (2.85 - 3.19), in cm total length, based on LWR estimates for this species & (Sub)family-body (Ref. 93245).
Trophic level (Ref. 69278):  3.5   ±0.5 se; based on size and trophs of closest relatives
Resilience (Ref. 120179):  High, minimum population doubling time less than 15 months (Preliminary K or Fecundity.).
Fishing Vulnerability (Ref. 59153):  Low vulnerability (10 of 100).
