Duri punggung (Keseluruhan (total)): 15 - 16; duri punggung lunak (Keseluruhan (total)): 7-8; Duri dubur 3; Sirip dubur lunak: 6 - 7. The color pattern, seven dark red lines, and a characteristic arc at the connection between the postorbital stripe and the midlateral band distinguish this new species from all other known members of the genus Apistogramma. Lateral line 11-17/6-10.
