Etymology: Pseudogobius: Greek, pseudes = false + Latin, gobius = gudgeon (Ref. 45335);  fulvicaudus: Derived from Latin fulvus (meaning yellow) and caudal (meaning caudal fin), in reference to the diagnostic character of a brilliant yellow mark on the caudal fin base in adult males.

Short description Morfologia | Morfometria

Spine dorsali (totale): 7; Raggi dorsali molli (totale): 7; Spine anali 1; Raggi anali molli: 6 - 7. This species can be diagnosed from other species of Pseudogobius by the unique combinations of the following characters: second dorsal fin with 1 spine and 7 rays, anal fin with 1 spine and 6-7 rays (modally 7), pectoral fin with 14-15 rays (modally 15) and first dorsal fin lacking filaments; lateral body with large ctenoid scales, longitudinal scale rows 25-26, predorsal scales 6; body with 4-5 main oblique black bars; caudal fin base with 2 black spots; first dorsal fin with a rear black blotch, and caudal fin base with a large semicircular bright yellow mark (Ref. 94986).
