Diagnosis: lower jaw with 2 rows of caniniform teeth, a single row in upper jaw; dorsal fin 19-21 segmented rays; anal fin with 19 segmented rays; 31 vertebrae; maximum size: 500 mm TL; gape of mouth reaching to below or beyond eye; dorsal fin: VII,19-21; anal fin: I,19; pectoral fins: 17; caudal fin: 16-18 segmented rays; dorsal and anal fins connected to caudal fin by a membrane (Ref. 57403, 79590). Coloration: preserved specimens uniformly light brown (Ref. 57403, 79590). In life: head and back bluish-grey, ventral part of body yellowish-white; fins greyish or white (Ref. 57403, 79590).
