Comments: Reported to be restricted to northern Algeria and only a captive population originating from a single collection by Van Der Zee & Vonk (1991) remains. Despite intensive field work, no additional populations have been found and thus this species appears to be extinct in the wild (Ref. 126233). Also reported from wells and brooks in the Atlas mountains, between Batna and Constantine (Ref. 3788).

Short description Morfología | Morfometría

This species is distinguished by the following characters: pelvic fin absent; with a wide, black sub-marginal bar bordered by a yellow marginal band in the anal, dorsal and caudal fins of the male; head canals absent; nuptial female with dermal sheath at the anal-fin base; flank pattern in the male with a series of black or brown bars; caudal-fin base in the female with a bold, black spot at centre (Ref. 126233).

Occurs in wells and brooks (Ref. 3788). Not a seasonal killifish. Is difficult to maintain in aquarium (Ref. 27139).
