Comments: Type locality, Pools at the floodplains of Igarapé do Baré, near Cano do Lago de Beleza, Lago Amanã system, Reserva de Desenvolvimento Sustentável Amanã, Japurá-Solimões drainage, Rio Amazonas basin, Município de Maraã, Estado do Amazonas, UFRJ 6571 (holotype of Rivulus amanan, 2.65 cm SL, male). Known only from 2 localities in northern Brazil, near Igarapé do Baré, a stream draining into lago Amanã, Japurá-Solimões drainage system, rio Amazonas basin (Ref. 78702).

Collected from a flooded forest area adjacent to the igarapédo Baré and the channel connecting it to lago da Beleza, an oxbow lake in the floodplains of the igarapé Baré. The area is subjected to average water level variations between 10-12 m, that environmental conditions vary enormously.
