Comments: Known from the Gulf of Tonkin and from central and southern Vietnam (Ref. 12846) but this has to be verified because Ref. 12846 is a checklist of marine fishes in the country. Occurs in the Mekong basin (Ref. 43281).

Asia: discontinuous distribution in mainland and insular southeast Asia: Chao Phraya and Mekong basins; islands of Sumatra and Borneo (Ref. 10429). Reported from the river systems of Maeklong, Peninsular and Southeast Thailand (Ref. 26336).

Second anal spine conspicuously enlarged (Ref. 43281).

Found in main rivers and lakes (Ref. 56749). Occurs in sluggish rivers and floodplains. Grows to a fairly large size and is probably the most common species of this family, seen in the markets. Feeds on insects, crustaceans, and small fish (Ref. 12693). Used as feeds for caged fishes (Ref. 56749).
