Description synthétique
Clés d'identification | Morphologie | Morphométrie
Distinguished from the other species of the genus in having a single pair of barbels (maxillary), a complete lateral line and (in most specimens) four small, vertically elongated black spots on the sides (above beginning of lateral line, below dorsal-fin origin, below posterior end of dorsal-fin base and on caudal peduncle) and one on the back below dorsal-fin origin. The spots are more distinct in preserved specimens than in fresh ones (Ref. 27732).
Inhabits small flowing streams, canals, ditches and occasionally impoundments (Ref. 12693). Found in medium to large rivers, stagnant water bodies including sluggish flowing canals and brooks of the middle Mekong (Ref. 12975). Occurs in running waters of the lower Mekong (Ref. 36667). Feeds mainly on zooplankton and insect larvae. Breeds during the rainy season. Half-grown young are caught in March (Ref. 12693).
