Known from the Paraná, Uruguay, Paraguay, Rio Guaíba and São Francisco River basins (Ref. 93038). Recorded from the Caracu and Sao Pedro streams, both tributaries of the Paraná river (Ref. 26076), and Piracicaba river (Ref. 50076). Regarded as threatened in the state of Minas Gerais (Ref. 26603). Also Ref. 27925, 79585, 36801.
