Type locality, Sea of Tien [Tien Chih], Yunnan Fu, China, elev. 6000 ft. (Ref. 33021). Reported from the lower reaches of the Jinshajiang R. (below Shigu), of the Yangtze R. system (Ref. 45259). The introduction of exotic species in Dianchi Lake has greatly reduced its range and number (Ref. 45864). Also found in the Fuxian Lake, Yunnan Province (Ref. 26563). Also Ref. 31517, 35840, 45536, 86777.

Status of threat: Endangered (Ref. 45536).
