Type locality of Profundulus parentiae, State of Oaxaca, Santa Maria Huatulco, Municipality of Santa Maria Huatulco, Toma de agua Río Huatulco, on the way to the Benito Juarez community, small creek of about 20 m width with an average depth of ca.30 cm. The known distribution of this species extends from the lower reaches of the Huatulco River in the Mexican state of Oaxaca close to the city of Santa María de Huatulco to tributaries of the Grande River in the vicinity of the town of Comitlan, in Oaxaca. It was captured in a range of altitudes from 188 to 420 meters (Ref. 119416).
