Endemic to Lake Guinas. Endangered by use and depletion of local groundwater resources and the potential impact of introduced fishes. Translocated to Lake Otjikoto, many reservoirs and several farm dams. Attractive aquarium species. Valuable for evolutionary studies (Ref. 7248). Also Ref. 6465, 27553, 27829, 52307. Known from Interior (Ref. 33857).

Status of threat: critically endangered in the interior (IUCN 1994) cited in Ref. 52863.
