Fish affected:    
Symptoms: Fused gill lamelae.  
Treatments: Applications of 0.125-0.150 ppm Bromex twice weekly. Note: At lower salinities the recommended doses is toxic to the fish, but with exception to Tilapia or carp which can tolerate a wide ramge of salinities. Other organophosphate treatments like Neguvon (Dipteryx, Masoten) or Malathion is equally effective.  
Prophylaxis: Avoidance of stress related factors like poor water condition, overcrowding, and nutritional deficiency.  
Remarks: Prolonged infection of the parasite causes a decrease in respiratory function of the gills.
