Definition of Term

cryptic
(English) Hidden, obscure, little seen; used to denote burrowing, hiding, tube-dwelling or other rarely seen and usually small species on a reef; applied to fishes that live amongst sheltering and concealing cover, or that have protective coloration. (See also: coral, reef, camouflage)
cryptique
(French) Caché, obscurcissé, peu vu; utilisé pour dénoter des animaux qui fouissent la terre, se cachent, demeurent dans des tubes ou habituellement autres petites espèces vu rarement dans un récif; appliqué aux poissons qui vivent parmi de l'abri de refuge et dissimulant, ou qui ont de la coloration protectrice.
