Reintroduced in 1974. Ova brought out from Hums haugh hatchery near Hexham was a mixture of brown and rainbow . The 1928 sample taken to Museum of Natural History, London was said to be rainbows and rainbow/brown hybrids. Now there is no trace of brown trout. In 1974 new stocking of Nyika plateau was attempted, ova from south Africa hatched and fingerlings were introduced to Dembo river. One specimen (600g) was caught in 1976, It has not been seen since.
