Distinguished by the following unique combination of character states: dorsal fin with 11-13 spines; anal fin with 11-12 spines and 8-10 segmented rays; round caudal fin with narrow bluish vertical band bounded anteriorly by brownish patch and posteriorly by black subdistal band; absence of blotch on posterior part of dorsal fin and reddishbrown bands on anal and dorsal fins (Ref. 93137)
