It has a longitudinal scale series 33-35; pored scales 2-4 (rarely 0); transverse scale series 10 (rarely 11); branched dorsal-fin rays 8; branched anal-fin rays 8 (rarely 9); vertebrae 34-35 (rarely 33); iris yellowish, belly yellow, dorsalfin membrane dark black, and a vertical band on the anterior of flank in nuptial males.
