This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following set of characters: D 8; A 6; pectoral-fin rays 23; vertebrae 31; large head and disc, of lengths 37.0 and 27.0% SL, respectively; in lateral view, upper end of the gill membrane level with the 5th pectoral-fin ray base; caudal-peduncle depth 1.3 times in length, and the posterior nostril located directly above the anterior margin of the eye (Ref. 137549).
