Esca a spherical whitish blob or it may be filamentous.  Last ray of pelvic fin bifurcate.  Caudal peduncle absent.

Eggs are bound in ribbon-like sheath or mass of gelatinous mucus called 'egg raft' or 'veil' (Ref. 6773).
