Diagnosis: Dorsal rays 64; anal rays 42; dorsal and anal rays branched; lateral-line scales (including those anterior to upper end of gill opening) 84; vertebrae 34; dorsal pterygiophores anterior to fourth dorsal spine 14; body depth 2.4 in SL; head length (HL) 4.3 in SL; eye diameter 4.1 in HL; eyes close together, the vertical interorbital width 15.3 in HL; tubular anterior nostril short and broad, not reaching anterior margin of lower eye; caudal peduncle present, but very short; no prominent cirri along ventral side of head; longest dorsal ray 2.5 in HL; caudal fin 4.9 in SL; pelvic fins 7.4 in HL, the longest ray reaching just beyond base of second anal ray; color gray with dark flecks and streaks, especially on the lateral line and basal half of caudal fin (Ref. 57561).
