Dorsal soft rays (total): 54 - 56; Anal soft rays: 49 - 51; Vertebrae: 59 - 61. Diagnosis: Long-finned, slit-eyed careproct with horizontal mouth and silvery coloration of belly and peritoneum; snout large, bluntly truncated; mouth slit reaches vertical of eye center; deep rostral fold; eye 25-28% of head length (HL) (juveniles goggle-eyed), small longitudinally oval pupil, 1/6-1/9 eye diameter; gill opening 1.0-1.2 eye diameter; opercular lobe rounded; teeth even, similar in size; interorbital space wide 56-57% HL; greatest body depth 90-100% HL; cuplike disc 20.5-21% HL (Ref. 41470).
Body shape (shape guide): elongated.
Immature female (13.8 cm SL) has small ovarian eggs not more than 1 mm in diameter (Ref. 41470).
