Etymology: Pseudogobius: Greek, pseudes = false + Latin, gobius = gudgeon (Ref. 45335); verticalis: Name from Latin 'verticalis' meaning overhead or straight up and down, referring to the distinctive vertical line through the middle of the first dorsal fin in this species.

Max length : 2.3 cm SL male/unsexed; (Ref. 126575)
Inhabits mangrove habitats, in shallow tidal areas and possibly be sympatric with Pseudogobius poicilosoma (often) and P. fulvicaudus (less often; five sites detected in Singapore and one in Brunei). A small species, with a gravid female at 1.7 cm SL, while males are with obvious genital papillae at 1.55 cm SL (Ref. 126575).
