Etymology: Branchiostegus: Greek, brangchia = gills + Greek, stego = roof, to cover (Ref. 45335); sanae: Named after a heroine’s name, San in Hayao Miyazaki’s film Princess Mononoke, referrig to the similar red under-eye stripes to this species and symbolizes the ideas and appeals of harmonious coexistence between man and nature (Miyazaki 1997).
