This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following set of characters: higher number of vertebrae 39-40* (20* precaudal +19-20* caudal); fusion of caudal-fin hypurals 4 +5; pectoral fin 12.3%-13.7% SL; pelvic fin 10%-11.1% SL; caudal fin 18.8%-20.3% SL; head 40%-42.3% HL; eye diameter 35.5%-38.5% HL; and snout 23.1%-25.9% HL (Ref. 138392).

This species inhabits densely shaded, black-water stream with a maximum depth of approximately 1.4 m and a subtrate composed of leaf litter (Ref. 138392).
