Freshwater; brackish; pelagic. Tropical; 14°N - 4°S
Asia: rivers of Viet Nam, Thailand and southeastern Sumatra, perhaps also Malaysia and western Kalimantan.

Dorsal spines (total): 0; Anal spines: 0; Anal soft rays: 80. Body tapering, belly rounded before pelvic fins, with 13 to 15 + 20 to 25 = 34 to 40 keeled scutes from isthmus to anus. Maxilla long, reaching to or beyond base of first pectoral fin ray. Lower gill rakers rarely 29. Pectoral fin with 6 long filaments, with the branched rays longer than those of pelvic fin.
A riverine species. There is insufficient data to show if this species occurs along coasts or whether it is estuarine and not freshwater (Ref. 9822). Found in estuaries and tidal reaches of rivers (Ref.12693).
