Marine; brackish; demersal; depth range 10 - 30 m (Ref. 6511), usually 10 - 25 m (Ref. 26999). Tropical; 14°N - 5°S
Eastern Central Atlantic: Mauritania (Ref. 5377) to Pointe-Noire, Congo.

Max length : 40.0 cm TL male/unsexed; (Ref. 2683); common length : 30.0 cm TL male/unsexed; (Ref. 2683)
Diagnosis: mostly cycloid scales on both sides of the body; 12-14 transversal scales between the mid-lateral line and the margino-dorsal lateral line (Ref. 81682).
Found on sand and mud bottoms of coastal waters (Ref. 2683). Feeds on mollusks. Sold as frozen filet under the name 'filets de sole' (Ref. 5377).
