This species is distinguished by the following characters: no fold or barbels on chin; mouth terminal, oblique, and anterior tip above horizontal level of lower eye edge; predorsal area and first dorsal fin base are both naked; anterior membrane (frenum) of pelvic fin well-developed; head with anterior oculoscapular (AOC) and preopercular (PC) canals, with pores ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ? and ?, ?, ? respectively, no posterior oculoscapular canal (POC); pores of head canals enlarged e.g. pores ? and ? are larger or about same size as interspaces to pore ?; transverse suborbital rows of sensory papillae 6, there are 4 continuous suborbital rows in front of row b, fifth divided in three parts but in front of row b, sixth just as superior part above row b and below pore ?; (8) longitudinal suborbital row b barely reaching forward to the vertical from posterior edge of eye (Ref. 121825).
