Dorsal spines (total): 6 - 7; Dorsal soft rays (total): 7 - 9; Anal spines: 1; Anal soft rays: 6 - 8; Vertebrae: 27. This species is most similar to Rhinogobius wuyanlingensis in number of vertebrae (27) and preopercular canal pores (2 or 0 vs. 2); differs by having fewer pectoral-fin rays 14-15 (vs. 17-18 in R. wuyanlingensis), fewer anal-fin rays I, 6-7 (vs. I, 8), fewer transverse scales 7-9, modally 8 (vs. 9-10); in males, anterior part of first dorsal fin without a black blotch (vs. present) and with branchiostegal membrane mostly reddish-orange, with irregular blotches posteriorly (vs. with red stripes) (Ref. 119419).
Occurs usually in shallow (10-50 cm deep) low-gradient streams (Ref. 119419).
