Depressed head; naked anterior portion of mouth, belly and breast; lips papillated; a reduced barbel at corners of the mouth; no dermal cirri in the snout; hooked preopercular spines, 13-16, the longest is 3.11-4.28 times smaller than the interorbital length; 3 unkeeled plates bordering the supraoccipital posteriorly, the middle not divided in the midline. Body depressed and caudal fin convex with lower lobe longest.
