Etymology: Schistura: Greek, schizein = to divide + Greek, oura = tail; an allusion to forked caudal fins (Ref. 45335).

Dorsal spines (total): 0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 12; Anal spines: 0; Anal soft rays: 8. Having 6-11 dark bars on the body not very contrasted, especially anterior ones, usually very faint in lower half of body; caudal peduncle with bars usually not reaching ventral mid-line; absence of median incision in upper lip; incomplete lateral line, reaching to anal fin origin (Ref. 43281).
