Dorsal soft rays (total): 8 - 9; Anal soft rays: 5; Vertebrae: 28 - 29. Can be distinguished from its congeners by having the following unique combination of characters: a plain brown body, head plain brown; presence of broad and flat secondary rostrum with folds; absence of postoral pouch; presence of shallow subopercular groove; gill slit vertical; sublacrymal groove present; a truncate snout when viewed dorsally; abdomen without scales; lateral line with 60-64 scales; pelvic fin just touching anal fin origin, adpressed dorsal fin not overlapping level of anal fin origin (Ref. 57871).
