Short description Identification keys | Morphology | Morphometrics

Dorsal spines (total): 1; Dorsal soft rays (total): 7; Anal spines: 1; Anal soft rays: 4. Differs from all other species of the genus, except Hypostomus albopunctatus, by having the pectoral fin spine length equal to or smaller than the pelvic-fin spine. Can be differentiated from Hypostomus albopunctatus by the presence of roundish dark spots on body and fins (vs. pale), and generally having more premaxillary, 39-59 per ramus (Ref. 79067).

Biology     Glossary (e.g. epibenthic)

Facultative air-breathing in the genus (Ref. 126274); Occurs in turbid water and rocky substrate with sand (Ref. 79067). Syntopic with Hypostomus ancistroides, Hypostomus iheringii, Hypostomus margaritifer, and Hypostomus regani (Ref. 79067).

Estimates based on models

Phylogenetic diversity index (Ref. 82804):  PD50 = 0.5000   [Uniqueness, from 0.5 = low to 2.0 = high].
Bayesian length-weight: a=0.01585 (0.00723 - 0.03476), b=2.96 (2.79 - 3.13), in cm total length, based on LWR estimates for this Genus-body shape (Ref. 93245).
Resilience (Ref. 120179):  Medium, minimum population doubling time 1.4 - 4.4 years (Preliminary K or Fecundity.).
Fishing Vulnerability (Ref. 59153):  Low vulnerability (19 of 100).
