Identification keys | Morphology | Morphometrics
Dorsal spines (total): 11; Dorsal soft rays (total): 23 - 24; Anal spines: 2; Anal soft rays: 6 - 8. This species is distinguished from all its congeners in the Atlantic by the following set of characters: a terminal and slightly oblique mouth; D1 XI; lack of diverticula on anterior chamber of gas bladder; differs from other species that lack diverticula: from S. punctatissimus which has a deeper body and a subterminal to inferior mouth, from S. menezesi with an elongated body and an inferior mouth, and from S. gomezi which has a more elongated body and a subterminal to inferior mouth (Ref. 125562).
